{"id":1340,"date":"2015-03-19T18:20:51","date_gmt":"2015-03-20T01:20:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.horseshoebarpreserve.com\/fly-fishing-american-river\/?p=1340"},"modified":"2015-03-19T18:21:01","modified_gmt":"2015-03-20T01:21:01","slug":"1340","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.horseshoebarpreserve.com\/fly-fishing-american-river\/1340\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I do not know about you guys, but knowing what line to use at times becomes very difficult for me.\u00a0\u00a0 The standard single handed 9\u2019 rod is pretty easy to understand.\u00a0 I tend to recommend going up a line when you are a novice caster as the extra weight allows you to feel the tug in the back cast. \u00a0\u00a0Then we have the switch and Spey rods which also have their variations depending on whether you are using a standard floating. sinking \u00a0or Spey lines. \u00a0\u00a0This is where it can get very complicated.\u00a0 Floating, Sinking, Nymphing, Skagit, Scandia and Short Scandia not to mention lines that come in rod line weight and also grains.\u00a0 Choosing a line can be overwhelming.\u00a0 Even those who are very knowledgeable can have difficulty in knowing what line to use. There are so many exceptions it is impossible to know them all.\u00a0 You would think a 5wt 9\u2019 single handle rod would use the same line as a 5wt 11\u2019 Switch rod.\u00a0 No, the extra length of the rod requires that you go up 2 or 3wts .
